The 22-year-old Amandeep Kaur stormed to a gold medal in the women’s 800 metres and a bronze in the 1500 metres at the ongoing World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze meet.

Bhubaneswar’s Kalinga Stadium witnessed a moment of pure pride for Indian athletics as 22-year-old Amandeep Kaur stormed to a gold medal in the women’s 800 metres and a bronze in the 1500 metres at the ongoing World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze meet.

Her performance was nothing short of exceptional. In the 800m event, Kaur clocked an impressive 2:04.31 minutes to clinch the top podium spot. Barely half an hour later, she returned to the track for the 1500m, pushing through fatigue to finish in 4:27.14 minutes, earning herself a well-deserved bronze.

“I was the only girl from Punjab, and having won two medals is a dream come true,” Amandeep said over the phone, her voice brimming with joy. “My second run was just half an hour after my 800m race – I can’t even express how happy I am.”

From Moga to the World Stage

Amandeep’s journey to this moment is steeped in resilience. Hailing from Moga, Punjab, she comes from a modest background – her father works as a labourer, and her mother as a domestic help. Financial constraints have been a constant challenge, but they have never managed to break her spirit.

Two years ago, she began training under Deepak Kumar in Dasuya, and that partnership has proven pivotal. “I know her struggles,” Kumar said. “Every competition requires us to pool resources to make sure she can participate. But over the past two years, I’ve seen her transform into a world-class athlete. Her dedication and hard work are beyond words. We are incredibly proud of her.”

A Star in the Making

Her coach is convinced this is just the beginning. “With proper support and training, she can achieve a lot. She is a star player,” Kumar added, hinting at bigger goals on the horizon – perhaps even a shot at representing India at the highest levels of international competition.

Amandeep’s triumph is not just about medals; it’s about breaking barriers. Her success is a reminder that talent exists in every corner of the country, waiting to be nurtured. For the young runner from Moga, the road ahead is still long, but she has already shown she has the endurance, grit, and heart to go the distance.
