Sharma has been in exceptional form in the current IPL season, boasting a strike rate of over 200 and accumulating 401 runs in 12 matches. Alongside Australian Travis Head, Sharma forms a dynamic opening partnership, notably orchestrating a swift chase of over 160 runs in less than 10 overs against Lucknow Super Giants in their recent encounter.
Markram On Abhishek Sharma in IPL 2024
“Abhi (Abhishek) has made massive strides this season. He was showing some positive signs in the previous seasons and what he’s achieved so far this season puts him in good stead for hopefully representing India one day,” Markram said.
“He’s got a very calm and level head on his shoulders and he’ll take everything in his stride. But my fingers are certainly crossed for him to go to higher honours,” he added.
Markram, who captains the South African team, referred to Sharma and Head as the “brothers of destruction” in an interview with PTI Videos.
Markram also weighed in on the discussion regarding the impact player rule, suggesting that the inclusion of an extra batter in the team lineup has empowered teams to adopt a more aggressive playing style.
“Naturally, when you have that extra batter in your batting line-up, you feel more freedom as a player. And obviously from the start of the innings, the openers feel that extra bit of freedom as well,” he explained.
