Former India cricketer and veteran Chennai Super Kings (CSK) spinner Ravichandran Ashwin recently had a conversation about former Indian captain the current CSK skipper MS Dhoni during a discussion on his YouTube channel. Amid ongoing controversy, Ashwin announced that his channel would no longer cover CSK matches for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season.
Interestingly, while Ashwin continued to analyze and comment on matches involving other IPL teams, he deliberately avoided any mention of CSK.
During a recent episode, one of the panelists said,”I’m so happy that you won the match. Ashwin, the only thing is that you’ve led teams a lot. The team that you’ve led has won the TNPL. What I feel is that leadership is very, very important. A leader is someone like Sanju Samson, someone like Shreyas Iyer, someone like Thala Dhoni.”

The issue appears to have started when the panelists began discussing CSK’s matches on Ashwin’s platform. In one episode, South African cricket analyst and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) consultant Prasanna Agoram questioned CSK’s decision to include Noor Ahmad in the playing XI despite having experienced players like Ravindra Jadeja and Ashwin himself.
When CSK head coach Stephen Fleming was later asked if these YouTube discussions had impacted the team dressing room, he responded bluntly:
“I have no idea. I didn’t even know he had a channel, so I don’t know that stuff. That’s irrelevant.”
Following this, Ashwin officially stated that his YouTube channel would not feature any previews or reviews of CSK matches going forward.
“Given the nature of the discussions on this forum over the last week, we want to be mindful of how things can be interpreted and have chosen to step away from covering CSK games, both previews and reviews, for the rest of this season,” Ashwin said in a statement.
“The views expressed by our guests do not reflect my personal opinions. We appreciate all those who engage thoughtfully with the spirit of the show.” he added.
