WWE Backlash 2025 is just around the corner, set to deliver high-octane action on May 10. The company has lined up five major matches, including several championship bouts. WWE Superstars such as John Cena, Randy Orton, Jacob Fatu, Dominik Mysterio, Gunther, and Becky Lynch are all set to electrify the WWE Universe.
One thing is certain these matches won’t end without chaos. Fans can expect shocking moments and potential interference, especially under Triple H’s leadership, where surprises are always on the table. Some matches could see unannounced appearances that shake things up. Here’s a look at the three major championship matches at Backlash 2025 that are highly likely to feature interference.
John Cena vs Randy Orton
At Backlash 2025, John Cena will defend his Undisputed WWE Championship against longtime rival Randy Orton. Cena captured the title at WrestleMania 41 after defeating Cody Rhodes, who has been absent from WWE television ever since.
This marks the first time in eight years that Cena and Orton will face off in a singles match, and the anticipation is sky-high. There’s strong speculation of outside interference. The Rock, who hasn’t been seen since WWE Elimination Chamber 2025, might return to support Cena. On the other hand, Cody Rhodes could make a surprise appearance, possibly attacking either Orton or Cena, adding another layer of intrigue to the title picture.

Dominik Mysterio vs Penta
Dominik Mysterio is set to defend his Intercontinental Championship against Penta. Mysterio captured the title at WrestleMania 41 in a Fatal 4-Way match. On the first RAW episode following WrestleMania, he successfully defended the title against Penta.
The company has booked a rematch for Backlash, and the threat of interference looms large. Members of The Judgment Day – Finn Bálor, JD McDonagh, and Carlito, could interfere on Mysterio’s behalf. Penta will need to be on high alert. Additionally, AJ Styles has expressed interest in the Intercontinental Title and may disrupt the match, potentially ending Mysterio’s title reign.
Lyra Valkyria vs Becky Lynch
Lyra Valkyria will put her Women’s Intercontinental Championship on the line against Becky Lynch. The rivalry between the two has been heating up. After losing the Women’s Tag Team Titles on the first RAW following WrestleMania 41, Becky turned heel and attacked Valkyria, who later challenged her to this title match.
Becky also revealed that she attacked Bayley at WrestleMania 41, causing Bayley and her partner to lose their spot in the Women’s Tag Team Championship match. Bayley may seek revenge at Backlash by interfering in the title match, targeting Becky and allowing Valkyria to retain her championship.
