Virat Kohli fails to end IPL drought with RCB
RCB’s impressive six-game winning streak was abruptly ended in Ahmedabad, with the franchise once again falling short of clinching the title. Kohli had an outstanding season with the bat, amassing 741 runs in 15 matches. Despite his stellar performance, and likely securing the Orange Cap, an IPL trophy continues to elude the former RCB captain.
Following Rovman Powell’s winning boundary for RR, a disheartened Kohli was seen knocking off the bails, mirroring his reaction to the loss in the ODI World Cup final against Australia at the same venue.
On Wednesday, Kohli made history by becoming the first player to score 8000 runs in the IPL. He needed just 29 runs to surpass this milestone and achieved it with his characteristic grace and precision. Yuzvendra Chahal dismissed Kohli after he scored 33 runs off 24 balls, which included three boundaries and a six. His closest competitor, Shikhar Dhawan, has 6,769 runs.
Throughout the tournament, Kohli accumulated 741 runs in 15 games for RCB, boasting an average of 64 and a strike rate of 155. This season, he recorded one century and five half-centuries.
