Ramadan 2025: Ramadan is the holy month in Islam, and Muslims fast from morning until sunset. It is the ninth month of the Hijri lunar calendar and begins with the first vision of the crescent moon. This month focuses on prayer, devotion and reflection, emphasising charity and giving.
This sacred month focuses on self-control and discipline. People observe it to become more aware of God, which is called ‘taqwa.’ It also helps them purify themselves, both physically and spiritually, by reducing bad habits.

This year, Ramadan is expected to begin on the evening of February 28, 2025 (Friday), depending on the visibility of the crescent moon after 6:00 PM. Significance
The Quran, the holy book of Islam, was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad about 1,400 years ago on Laylat al-Qadr. This night is one of the five odd-numbered nights in the last ten days of Ramadan. During Ramadan, Muslims fast, meaning they do not eat or drink from sunrise until sunset. They start the fast with a pre-sunrise meal called sehri and break it at sunset with a meal known as iftar, usually held after the moon is seen.
Ramadan is one of the most important months in Islam. It is a time for Muslims around the world to focus on purification, self-discipline, and spiritual growth.
Greetings
During this month, people commonly greet each other with ‘Ramadan Mubarak’ and ‘Ramadan Kareem.’ These phrases wish the people a blessed month and a month filled with generosity, respectively.
