Ganesh Chaturthi 2025 Date: Just a few days are left for the much-awaited arrival and festival of Lord Ganesha. Preparations have begun for Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi. This Hindu festival marks the birthday of Lord Ganesha. Pandals are being set up with grand idols of the Lord Ganesha for the occasion. Various types of modaks, barfis and laddoos are displayed at sweet shops.
People celebrate the festival by installing Lord Ganesha’s murtis (idols) privately in their homes and publicly in grand pandals. Observances include the chanting of Vedic hymns along with prayers and vrata (fasting). Offerings and prasada are distributed from the pandal to the community after the daily prayers.
The festival ends on the tenth day after it begins, when the murti is carried in a public procession with music and group chanting, and then immersed in a nearby body of water, such as a river or the sea. This ritual is called visarjana, and is observed on the day of Ananta Chaturdashi.
