Pundrik Goswami is the famous Acharya of Shri Radha Raman temple from Vrindavan Dham. Today, on the auspicious occasion of Navaratri, he explains about the 9 avatars of Ma Durga, each of which is celebrated on the 9 days in Navaratri. He explains:

On the first day, Maa Durga is worshipped as ‘Ma Shailputri’. Maa Durga took a human birth as Goddess Parvati to describe the life of a woman. She was the daughter of King Himvan and thus called Shailputri. On this day, Maa Durga is celebrated as a little daughter as she describes the duties and nature of a daughter.

On the second day, Maa Durga is worshipped as ‘Ma Brahmcharini’ where she teaches the duties of a girl who is grown up, gains education and values as she turns mature.

On the third day, Maa Durga is worshipped as ‘Ma Chandra Ghanta’ where she she shows as attaining the age of beauty and is graceful to welcome the married life ahead.

On the fourth day, Maa Durga is worshipped as ‘Ma Kushmanda’ where she is seen married and carrying a child. Here she shows the motherly affection and strength a woman has as she is the one who gives birth.

On the fifth day, Maa Durga is worshipped as ‘Ma Skandmata’ where she teaches the duties of a mother.

On the sixth day, Maa Durga is worshipped as ‘Ma Katyayni’ where is shows the kindness compassion, empathy and endurance a woman holds within.

On the seventh day, Maa Durga is worshipped as ‘Ma Kalratri’ where she teaches and shows how a lady is the unshakable strength of her husband.

On the eighth day, Maa Durga is worshipped as ‘Ma Mahagauri’ where she is taking care of the whole world as her own house and all the living beings as her own children.

On the ninth day, Maa Durga is worshipped as ‘Ma Siddhidatri’ where she grants her blessings of purity of mind, peace and love in the whole world.
