Diwali 2025: India is celebrating the festival of lights, Diwali on Monday, October 20. Goddess Lakshmi, who is considered the goddess of wealth, prosperity, and well-being is worshipped on the night of Diwali. Lakshmi Pujan is one of the most important rituals in Hindu tradition and on Diwali its significance increases as it is believed that on this day, Goddess Lakshmi visits homes that are clean, well-lit, and filled with devotion, bringing blessings of wealth and happiness.
Devotees perform special puja to invite her blessings into their homes and lives for the coming year. To properly honour Goddess Lakshmi, it becomes essential to have the right puja samagri (ritual items) and perform puja during shubh muhurat (auspicious timings). In this article, we have listed must-have samagris for Lakshmi Pujan and the auspicious timings to perform rituals.
Diwali 2025: Lakshmi Puja Date and Timings
According to Drik Panchang, Lakshmi Puja will be performed on Monday, October 20, 2025, with the most auspicious muhurat for the puja falling between 7:25 pm and 8:31 pm, during the Pradosh Kaal and Vrishabha Kaal. The Amavasya Tithi begins at 3:44 pm on October 20 and ends at 5:54 pm on October 21. The total duration of the shubh muhurat will be 1 Hour 5 Minutes.

Following items are considered essential for Diwali Puja:
New Murti (Idols) of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi.
Bahi-Khata (Account Books).
One red silk cloth for Goddess Lakshmi, One yellow cloth and Inkpot with pen.
One red cloth for God’s Aasan (seating).
Wooden stool for keeping Murtis
Five big earthen lamp.
Small earthen Deepak (at least 25).
One fresh earthen Kalash (pitcher).
Flowers and at least three garlands made of fresh flowers.
Bilva-leaves and Tulsi-leaves.
Naivedhya e.g. sweets, fruits, sugarcane, Lava (parched rice).
Sweet Paan (at least 3).
One pen made of pomegranate or Bilva branch.
Duba, Durva grass.
