New Delhi: Dhanteras or Dhanvantari Jayanti or Dhantrayodashi is considered to be the first day of the five-day Diwali festival. This year Diwali will be celebrated on October 24. Dhanteras will be observed on October 22.
The festival is celebrated by the people as they follow the practice of buying utensils and jewelry during that day. According to the Hindu calendar, October 22 will be the thirteenth day of the month of Krishna Paksha.

According to legends, Dhanvantari, God of Ayurveda emerged during the Samudra Manthan (churning of the ocean) that was performed by Devas and Asuras. He is considered as the incarnation of Vishnu. Dhanvantri came out holding a jar of the Amrit elixir on the day of Dhanteras which is the reason why followers practice the worship of God Dhavnatari.
Dhanteras 2022: Significance
According to the Hindu calendar, Dhanteras is observed on the thirteenth lunar day of Krishna Paksha. Dhanvantari, the God of Ayurveda, is worshipped on the occasion of Dhanteras. In the occasion, people clean their homes and decorate them with lanterns and diyas.

Dhanteras will be observed on October 22, 2022. Dhanteras Puja Time is 7.34 pm to 8.40 pm. The puja muhurat is 1 hour 6 minutes, so people conducting puja will have to plan according to this timing. The Trayodashi Tithi will start at 6.02 pm on 22 October and end at 6:30 pm on 23 October.
