Chhath Puja 2025: One of the most revered and vibrant festivals, Chhath Puja is celebrated in parts of India and Nepal. The festival is dedicated to worshipping Lord Surya, the Sun God, and Chhathi Maiya. Marking gratitude for the life-giving energy of the sun, the four-day festival includes fasting, several rituals, and prayers to seek health, prosperity, and well-being for the entire family. This year, Chhath Puja will be observed from October 25 to 28, bringing communities together to celebrate the festival with immense devotion and joy.

Chhath Puja 2025: Dates and Day-wise Significance
Chhath Puja is observed primarily in Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Nepal. The festival dedicated to Lord Surya and Chhathi Maiya, symbolises the worshipping of the Sun God and seeking his blessings for the well-being of family members. Devotees believe that observing the rituals with devotion brings prosperity, happiness, and health to their lives. Chhath Puja fasting is mainly observed by women for the well-being of sons and the happiness of the family.
Nahay Khay, October 25: The first day of Chhath is known as Nahay Khay. On this day, holy dip in water body, especially in river Ganga, is taken. Women who observe Chhath take only single meal on the first day.
Lohanda and Kharna, October 26: The second day of Chhath is known as Kharna. Devotees fast without water from the sunrise to the sunset on this day. The fast is broken after sunset, after offering food to the the Sun God.
Chhath Puja, Sandhya Arghya, October 27: The fast on the third day begins after consuming Prasad on the second day. A full-day fast without water is observed on the main third day of Chhath Puja. The main ritual on this day is offering Arghya to the setting Sun.It is the only time of the year when Arghya is given to the setting Sun. The fasting continues throughout the night.
Usha Arghya, Parana Day, October 28: The fourth and final day of Chhath includes the ritual of giving Arghya to the rising Sun and is known as Usha Arghya. Notably, the 36 hours long fast is broken after giving Arghya to the Sun.
