Why Lord Ganesh Is Worshipped First—Unveiling The Deeper Spiritual Roots Behind The Celebration Of Ganesh Chaturthi

Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayak Chaturthi, is one of the most vibrant and grand festivals celebrated across the globe, especially in Maharashtra. This year that is in 2025, the Celebration falls on the 27th of August. It is dedicated to Lord Ganesha, the god of Wisdom, Intellect, prosperity and new beginnings. Different cultures, different traditions- but one shared feeling-love. A rich spiritual tradition underpins the deep mythological meaning inherent in Hindu thought and literature.

Ganesh Chaturthi marks the beginning of the season of festivities, also because Ganesh ji is blessed to be the first one to be worshipped before any auspicious occasion. The deity Ganesha is known as the Vighnaharta, or remover of obstacles.

The story goes as that Goddess Parvati made him from some dirt while she was bathing. She gave him life and made him the protector of her room.

One day, Lord Shiva tried to enter Maa Parvati’s room, Ganesha, who didn’t know who his father was, stopped him. This caused a big fight between them, and sadly, Ganesha lost his head.

But Lord Shiva realized the mistake and gave Ganesha the head of an elephant, which made him look special. To make amends, Lord Shiva declared that henceforth, Ganesha would be worshiped before any other deity, and his blessings would be sought before starting any new endeavor. This laid the foundation for Ganesh Chaturthi as a significant festival.

Ganesh Chaturthi is a 10-day celebration filled with immense devotion and enthusiasm, concluding with the visarjan, or immersion, of the idol. The last day, devotees offer prayers to Lord Ganesha to seek his divine blessings for wisdom, clarity, new beginnings, and inner strength. It is chance for a purify your soul.

Ganesh Chaturthi embodies the timeless truth that true success is rooted in humility, wisdom, and devotion — the very values that Lord Ganesha represents.
