Queen Radhikaraje Gaekwad of Baroda recently visited the Baroda Central Jail, bringing attention to the 114-year-old facility. The jail, built in 1881 by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad, has a long history. During her visit, the Queen observed the daily routine of the inmates and looked into the rehabilitation programs being run by the prison authorities to help inmates improve their lives.

Radhikaraje Gaekwad shared on Instagram, “IT was long pending, my visit to the Baroda Central Prison (BCP). I couldn’t have been more pleasantly surprised. Still retaining old world charm with its original structures, even metal bars that have refused to rust over the 114 years the facility has been in existence since 1st established by Maharaja Sayajirao in 1881.”

Queen Radhikaraje Gaekwad often makes headlines for her graceful style. At 47, she is a mother of two daughters, and her natural simplicity adds to her beauty. She lives a modest life while carrying forward her royal traditions. The royal home of Baroda, Lakshmi Vilas Palace, is known as the largest private residence in the world. It has 170 rooms, huge gardens, a horse-riding area, a swimming pool, a golf course, and many other luxurious facilities.

According to Gujarat Tourism’s official website, Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III built the palace in 1890 during his rule over the Baroda State. The Gaekwad family owns large inherited properties, big estates, and successful businesses, giving them an estimated net worth of over Rs 20,000 crore. Radhikaraje’s husband, Samarjitsinh Ranjitsinh Gaekwad, is a former cricketer who played for Baroda in the Ranji Trophy.
