IPL 2026: Top 5 trump cards of Shah Rukh Khan’s KKR, two names will surprise you

From Cameron Green’s record Rs 25.20 crore deal to Varun Chakravarthy’s world-class mystery spin, discover the five key players set to lead Kolkata Knight Riders to glory in the IPL 2026 season.

After a strategic and high-spending performance at the IPL 2026 mini-auction, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have assembled a squad that looks like a title contender once again. With a blend of expensive new acquisitions and trusted retained stars, the team has addressed the gaps left by the departure of franchise legend Andre Russell.

Cameron Green: KKR made history by signing Australian all-rounder Cameron Green for a record-breaking Rs 25.20 crore, making him the most expensive overseas player in auction history. With Russell transitioning into a coaching role, Green is the new engine of the team. His ability to bat anywhere in the top four and provide 140+ kmph seam options makes him a dual-threat that most teams can't match.

Matheesha Pathirana: Acquired for Rs 18 crore, the Sri Lankan 'Baby Malinga' is KKR’s answer to their previous death-bowling struggles. Pathirana’s slinging action and pinpoint yorkers at over 150 kmph make him a nightmare in the final overs. Paired with Harshit Rana, he gives KKR one of the most aggressive pace attacks in the league.

Finn Allen: With Sunil Narine expected to move down the order, KKR needed a new explosive opener. New Zealand’s Finn Allen (bought for Rs 2 crore) is a high-value "steal.' Allen is known for his fearless intent from ball one. His job is simple: exploit the powerplay and give KKR the flying starts that Phil Salt provided during their 2024 championship run.

Varun Chakravarthy: While many franchises change their spin core, KKR has stuck with their most successful weapon, ‘Mystery Spinner’. Varun is currently ranked as the world’s No.1 T20I bowler. On the turning tracks of Eden Gardens, he is expected to squeeze the life out of opposition middle order.

Rinku Singh: Rinku Singh remains the heartbeat of KKR’s batting. As the most trusted Indian finisher in the squad, the pressure of a chase rarely rattles him. In a lineup that might look top-heavy with the likes of Green and Finn Allen, Rinku provides the necessary insurance policy at the end of the innings to turn defeats into miracles.
