Akshay took to his Twitter handle, to announce the news of his mother's demise. "She was my core. And today I feel an unbearable pain at the very core of my existence."
Akshay on Monday had returned to India from the UK after learning that his mother was admitted to the intensive care unit of Mumbai's Hiranandani Hospital.
"My maa Smt Aruna Bhatia peacefully left this world today morning and got reunited with my dad in the other world. I respect your prayers as I and my family go through this period. Om Shanti," actor wrote.
Akshay would occasionally share glimpses of special moments with his mother on social media.
Akshay Kumar’s parents Hari Om Bhatia and Aruna Bhatia lived in Amritsar, Punjab, where the actor was born. They later moved to Delhi, where the actor spent his childhood days in Chandni Chowk.
Akshay is extremely attached to his mother and could not stay away from her while she's not well, so he decided to fly back to India in a sudden decision.
Akshay Kumar was last seen in Bell Bottom. He has a couple of films lined up, including Sooryavanshi, Raksha Bandhan, Ram Setu, Bachchan Panday and Atrangi Re.
