Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge Turns 30: 9 Unknown Facts About Shah Rukh Khan And Kajol’s Blockbuster Film

Directed by Aditya Chopra, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge stars Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in the lead roles.

Yash Chopra was to direct 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge'. But the confident father was sure that Aditya would be much better at the job.

According to the know-all Wikipedia, Saif Ali Khan was offered the lead, but he turned it down. Saif, however, denies this, arguing he would be a fool to turn down DDLJ. He firmly believes SRK was the perfect fit. And most agree with him.

Initially, Lataji was supposed to sing all the songs. Yash Chopra insisted on only his Saraswati Mata. But then Lataji was not very comfortable vocalising the one number 'Zara sa jhoom loon main'. That’s how Asha Bhosle came into the picture for that one song.

The first two lines of the tune 'Tujhe dekha toh yeh jaana sanam (Pyar hota hai deewana sanam)' were given to composers Jatin-Lalit by Aditya Chopra. This fact has been confirmed by Lalit Pandit.

The original choice for Parmeet Sethi’s part was Armaan Kohli, producer-director Raj Kumar Kohli’s Suputra. Sethi had his heart set on the role.

A title song was composed, then dropped. Aditya Chopra felt it would be compared with Ravindra Jain’s 'Le jayenge le jayenge dilwale dulhaniya le jayenge' in the film 'Chor Machaye Shor'. The rejected title song 'Chal Pyar Karegi' for DDLJ was used by Jatin-Lalit in 'Jab Pyar Kissise Hota Hai'.

The title 'Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge' was suggested by Kirron Kher, who is not part of the film’s cast.

Karan Johar played one of SRK’s buddies in DDLJ. Karan cringes each time he is reminded of his dubious histrionics.

The reference for Kajol in Lataji’s 'Mere khwabon mein jo aaye' was Saira Banu in Lataji’s 'Bhai batoor' from Padosan.
