The True Example Of Grace And Governance
She was born in 1725 in a small village of Chondi in Maharashtra. At a very young age she was married to Khanderao Holkar of the Holkar Dynasty of Malwa, but after the death of her husband and her father-in-law, Ahilya took the responsibility of the throne in 1767. She ruled the kingdom of Indore until her death in 1795.
Ahilya was not like the other rulers of that time, she wasn’t born into royalty, which made her grounded and kind with the right sense of justice. That is why people used to like her a lot and respect her wholeheartedly.
A Builder Of Temples And Cities
The fact that made her different from others was her zeal for Public Welfare and preserving the spiritual legacy. She rebuilt and restored hundreds of temples and dharmshalas across India. The famous Kashi Vishwanath Temple was also rebuilt by her, which is still very famous among Indians.
Ahilyabai Holkar’s Sense Of Justice
Ahilyabai’s court was a right example of justice and empowerment. She held daily durbar where anyone could approach her with their problems. She rejected the traditional practice of sati after her husband’s death, showcasing strength at a time when women’s voices were rarely heard.
On Ahilyabai Jayanti, many states, especially in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh they organize programs in her memory, including cultural events, lectures, and social service activities. Statues of her across the country stand as a reminder of her contributions
