N Chandrasekaran was born in 1963 in a simple farming family in Mohanur, a village in Tamil Nadu’s Namakkal district. He went to a government school for his early education. Later, he studied Applied Sciences at Coimbatore Institute of Technology. He then earned a Master of Computer Applications (MCA) degree from the Regional Engineering College in Tiruchirappalli.

Career Beginnings at Tata Group

Chandrasekaran’s journey with the Tata Group started in 1987 when he joined Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) as an intern. He worked hard and quickly moved up the ranks. By 2007, he became the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of TCS. Just two years later, in 2009, at the age of 46, he was appointed CEO of TCS.

Working Closely with Ratan Tata

Throughout his career, Chandrasekaran worked closely with Ratan Tata, who trusted him deeply. Ratan Tata not only mentored him but also became a close friend. When Ratan Tata retired, he chose Chandrasekaran to lead the Tata Group forward. In a recent speech at the 25th ET Awards for Corporate Excellence, Chandrasekaran shared a touching memory of Ratan Tata. He mentioned how, despite his health issues, Ratan Tata would personally greet and see him off every time they met, showing his kindness and humility.

Personal Life and Net Worth

Today, N Chandrasekaran’s net worth is estimated to be around $100 million (about ₹855 crore). He reportedly earns over ₹100 crore each year. He lives in a luxurious duplex apartment in Mumbai worth ₹98 crore, located near Mukesh Ambani’s famous Antilia mansion.
