Clearing the exam requires immense hard work, dedication, and commitment. Following this path, a boy from Uttarakhand managed to crack the exam three times — and that too without any coaching. How did he achieve this feat? What is his success mantra? Here’s how he reached his dream job.
Who is Himanshu Gupta
Born in Sitarganj, Udham Singh Nagar district, Uttarakhand, Himanshu Gupta faced numerous challenges to achieve his dream. He was not born with a silver spoon. His hard work, along with his family’s, helps him grab the dream that he had since his childhood. Most importantly, his father sold tea, which was the family’s sole means of livelihood, and Himanshu faced severe financial hardships throughout his life. He used to travel 70 km daily for school.
Himanshu Gupta’s Education: School and College Years
He did his schooling in Bareilly’s Sirauli. His father, despite the financial difficulties, encouraged Himanshu to study hard and supported him in every way possible. After completing his school, Himanshu attended Hindu College, Delhi University, graduating in Botany. From Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), he earned a postgraduate degree in Public Administration. During this time, only he decided to prepare for the UPSC Civil Services Examination without coaching classes. He solely relied on self-study and determination.
Himanshu Gupta’s Self-Determination
Himanshu Gupta passed the UPSC Civil Services Examination three times in a row. In his first attempt in 2018, he was selected for the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS). In 2019, he secured an All India Rank of 309 and was selected for the Indian Police Service (IPS) in his second attempt. In his third attempt in 2020, he achieved an All India Rank of 139, fulfilling his dream of becoming an IAS officer.
