What's the difference In between Surgical strikes and precision air attacks- A comprehensive look at both types of counter measures

Following their response against the terror attack in Pahalgam, India executed a decisive and highly targeted combat maneuver that is being dubbed Operation Sindoor on early morning 7th May. As per official reports India has reported that it attacked terrorist infrastructure in both Pakistan and Pakistan administered Kashmir. India has confirmed that explosions were reported in parts of Pakistan early Wednesday morning, as a result of military action under the operation.

India has made its intentions clear and acted profound alacrity.  Reports have suggested that the attack was a non-escalatory attempt that was targeted towards terrorist infrastructure and was a highly targeted attack to limit any civilian casualties.

What Is the Difference Between a Surgical Strike and  Precision Bombing Attack ?

A surgical strike is any highly targeted attack,  which is intended to damage only legitimate military targets- (in case of India- hubs of terrorism in Pakistan). An integral principle of such attacks is to minimize the damage to a certain targeted location and reduce the chances of collateral damage that might be a result of air strikes.

Any targeted countermeasure attack can be considered to a surgical attack, such targeted attacks are specially administered to ensure that minimum collateral damage is resulted. One of the stand out feature of such attacks has been their non escalatory  nature, these are often considered to be a swift action against constant terror attacks. It would be fair to state that precision bombing as done under Operation Sindoor falls under the category of Surgical strikes.  Any sort of targeted attack whether on foot where military personals infiltrate line of control and attack an targeted manner or airstrike falls under the category of a surgical strike.

Such bombings are very different from Carpet bombing, another military tactic that often leads to high collateral damage  and a widespread destruction in the affected area, which often result in civilian casualties.

India has chosen its countermeasures after a bout of severe critical deliberation to minimize civilian casualties and ensure that the only result of the non escalatory attack is a halt at the spread of terrorism in the said areas.
