What Was The Case?
Various reports says that, Vasundhara was detained by armed individuals identifying as law enforcement officers during her visit of an Extra-Neutral Alcohol (ENA) plant in Uganda. According to Vasundhara, she was taken without a warrant or formal charges, along with several colleagues, including company lawyer Rita Ngabire.
Her father Pankaj Oswal, claims that her detention was on a false allegations by a former Oswal Group employee. The accused allegedly stole valuable assets and took a $200,000 loan, with the Oswal family serving as guarantors.
The Oswals have since turned to the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, seeking justice and intervention.
The situation took an unexpected and dramatic twist when it emerged that Vasundhara had been accused of kidnapping and murdering a former employee—who was later found alive in Tanzania. Despite this shocking revelation on October 10, she remained in custody for nearly two more weeks before finally securing bail on October 21, 2024.
During her time in detention, Vasundhara was reportedly held in a high-security Ugandan prison, sharing space with convicted criminals and enduring harsh, inhumane conditions.
