Until 5-10 years ago, it was typical for women to leave their jobs and focus on managing their home and family after marriage. However, many women defied this norm, excelling in both their careers and family life without compromising either. Their ability to multitask has been celebrated, with some even appearing on the covers of women’s magazines. Today, many of these women are successfully leading companies—some originally founded by men—achieving greater success than their male counterparts.

Tanu Shree is one of the women who defied the conventional path of settling down after marriage and securing a government job. She was prepared to sacrifice her youth, time, and energy to follow her passion and pursue the life of her dreams – IPS. She cracked her UPSC exam after her marriage and became an IPS Officer

IPS Tanu Shree’s Success Story And Her Marriage

Tanu Shree married in 2015 but continued to balance her responsibilities at home while chasing her aspirations. She successfully cleared the UPSC exam in 2016 and joined the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 2017 as part of the AGMUT cadre. A 2017-batch officer, she has served as the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Shopian, Jammu and Kashmir, and is currently posted as the Superintendent of Police (SP) for the State Investigation Agency (SIA) in Kashmir.

Tanu Shree, born on April 24, 1987, completed her early schooling in Motihari, Bihar. She finished her 12th-grade board exams at DAV Public School, Bokaro. Her father is a retired DIG from CRPF. She pursued a BA in History (Honors) at Miranda House College, Delhi University, where she also began preparing for competitive exams. She began her career as an Assistant Commandant in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in 2014. She even cracked an examination for the Income Tax Department but didn’t join.

How IPS Became Her Dream

Tanu Shree was inspired by her elder sister, Manu Shree, a commandant in the CRPF, which sparked her desire to pursue a career that would allow her to wear a uniform. Manu Shree provided constant support throughout Tanu Shree’s journey.

Tanu Shree’s 150K Social Media Followers

Unlike many, Tanu Shree is highly active on social media, where she has garnered 150K followers. She regularly shares updates from both her personal and professional life. Her audience consists of a large number of young people and women who admire and look up to her.
