He defeated China's defending Champion, Ding Liren, in a nail-biting game of the 14-match series held in Singapore. Gukesh's victory surpasses Garry Kasparov's record as the youngest champion, which was set at 22 years old in 1985.

India’s teenage prodigy D.Gukesh has created history by winning the World’s youngest-ever chess champion title at 18. He defeated China’s defending Champion, Ding Liren, in a nail-biting game of the 14-match series held in Singapore. Gukesh’s victory surpasses Garry Kasparov’s record as the youngest champion, which was set at 22 years old in 1985.

The Chennai boy has also made headlines for his sudden surge in net worth following his thrilling victory over the legendary Ding. According to News 18, Gukesh has won a staggering sum of Rs 11.45 crore as prize money. Whereas his opponent Ding Liren, received Rs 9.75 crore. As per match rules, Rs 1.69 crore was awarded for each game victory. Gukesh has won three matches (3rd, 11th, and 14th). Where in he has amassed Rs 17 crore in just 17 days.

Before the historic win, Gukesh’s estimated net worth is Rs 8.26 crore. This included those he earned from his high-stakes tournaments, both at the national and international level. Advertisements also contributed to his wealth.

However, Gukesh’s total earnings have now exceeded Rs 20 crore, combining his prize money from past tournaments and income from advertising deals. In total, his net worth has crossed Rs 25-crore mark. Reports also say that he has already bagged various giant deals on which he will be working for the next six months.

Gukesh’s Career reached a turning point in 2023

Gukesh Dommaraju embarked on his chess journey at the young age of seven. His unwavering dedication and focussed approach in chess made him rapidly climb the ranks. Hs is mentored by the GrandMaster Viswanathan Anand. Born in Chennai on May 29 2006, his father Dr. Rajnikanth is a surgeon whereas his mother, Dr.Padma is a microbiolgist by profession.

Calm, composed and cool Gukesh’s Career took off with a series of early victories. In 2023, at just 17, he became the youngest player to cross a 2750 Elo rating in August, beating the legendary chess icon Viswanathan Anand to become India’s top-rated player.
