Lucknow: Walking the talk, UP CM Yogi Adityanath has taken a tough stand on public holidays. He had earlier expressed his anger over public holdiays announced by various governments to serve their political interests.
The UP government has decided to scrap holidays on the birth and death anniversaries of great personalities. ''Fifteen such holidays have been scrapped,'' the government spokesman said after the Cabinet meeting on Tuesday. There will be no holiday now on `chatth puja', which is celebrated with fervour in his home town Gorakhpur and PM Modi's constituency Varanasi.
The government offices, schools and colleges would remain open on these days now. In a first, on the birth and death anniversaries now programmes would be held to highlight the important incidents in the lives of these great personalities.
The Cabinet also okayed a special one week session of the state assembly from May 15.
