Mumbai: Eman Ahmed Abd El Aty (36), the heaviest living women in the world and the second heaviest woman in history is now half her age, thanks to the Indian doctor Dr Muffazal Lakdawala. This Egyptian national was brought to India in February this year and the target set for Lakdawala and his team of doctors was near impossible. But the medical team took the challenge litle knowing what would be the final outcome. But the result within two months is amazing. Eman now waeighs half her original weight. Says Dr Lakdawala: "Risk in this case was 99%, had only 1% chance of success. She has done miraculously well, didn't expect this." The weight reduction surgery is successsful and the entire medical team is elated about this.
All this was possible because of the initiatives taken by Eman's sister Shaimaa Selim. Selim is married and has children. Besides her home and professional life she had to take care of Eman and she was worried once things started going out of control. The weight was increasing gradually and the bed-ridden Eman was having great problems. She then learned about Dr Muffazal Lakdawala, who is an expert in weight loss surgery. After seeing her reports and going through her history he was ready to take up the challenge, though unsure about the final outcome.
Transporting Eman was a very big challenge and the walls of her room were razed to bring her out with the help of a crane. A special truck and cargo flight were arranged. All the expenses were met from the funds raised through charity. The family is very happy to see the results but they still have a long way to go. Doctors have taken one year to bring her to the minimum acceptable weight.
