New York: Despite facing global outrage on social media, TikTok continues to make deals and this time The New York Yankees have signed a deal with the controversial video sharing application.
This multiyear agreement with the baseball team gives the app behind the scene programming with players, weekly highlights, and "custom, fan-first experiences" on the Yankees' TikTok account.
By the addition of this feature the team's cable channel, YES Network will also be upgraded as the average baseball television viewer is 57 years old, according to a report by Sports Business Journal in 2017.
Major League Baseball is shortened to 62 games this season, which is almost one-third of the usual 162 games per season. This reduction means that the YES Network will have fewer matches to broadcast and have less time to attract new fans.
TikTok is mostly used by teenagers so it is a big platform for the attraction of the young audience and this deal is a silver lining for the drowning fan base of the baseball channel and the team.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump stated that TikTok is a threat to national security and it should be banned from the United States.
"The spread in the United States of mobile applications developed and owned by companies in the People's Republic of China continues to threaten the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States," an official from White House said.
"At this time, action must be taken to address the threat posed by one mobile application, in particular, TikTok."
Back in June India banned TikTok along with 58 other Chinese applications. Later on, 47 more Chinese applications were also banned by the Indian government.
