Britain, (Diksha Kumari): Mahatma Gandhi’s used and broken’ pocket watch watch sold £ 12,000 at an auction in the city of Bristol, Britain.
This amount is about 11Lakh 82 thousands rupees in Indian currency.
In 1944 Gandhi, a silver polished Swiss watch, was gifted to the grandfather of the man who put the watch up for auction.
Auction agency ‘East Bristol Auction’ had hope that the watch would be bid up to around £ 10,000 but price went up more than expected in Friday’s auction.
Andrew stow of the East Bristol Auction, who sells the watch said- ‘the watch was brought by a collector based in the United States’. Auctioneer Andrew Stow told Sky News earlier this month ‘Someone put it in our letterbox on Friday’s night. There was a note in it, which said that it is Gandhi’s spectacles. I thought ‘this is interesting’.
Earlier in August, the same auction house sold a spectacle for £ 260,000 which is believed to be worn by Mahatma Gandhi.
The auction house wrote on Friday, “We received the glasses in the letterbox four weeks ago, which a gentleman had left.
Gandhi himself gave this glasses to his uncle. We got an incredible result for an incredible item. Thanks to everyone who bid.
