LAST UPDATED: Jan. 14, 2021, 9:55 a.m.

Sanjeev Trivedi, New Delhi: The impeachment motion against US President Donald Trump has been passed in the House of Representatives, the lower house of Parliament.

Now, these charges will be tried in the Senate, the upper house of Parliament. The proposal will be presented in the Senate on 19 January.

Trump was accused of inciting his supporters to attack Capitol Hill, the US parliament complex. The motion was passed in the House by 232 votes against 197. Ten Republican lawmakers supported the impeachment motion. Trump has become the first President in the history of America against whom impeachment resolution has been passed twice in a single term.

Trump refused to accept the results of the US 2020 election, and after remaining silent he encouraged thousands of his supporters to march to the Capitol. Trump was first impeached by the House over his dealings with Ukraine in 2019, but the Senate voted to acquit him in early 2020.

Immediately after impeachment by the House of Representatives, US President Donald Trump condemned Capitol Hill violence and said that none of his true supporters could threaten fellow Americans.

"Mob violence goes against my faith and our movement. No true supporter of mine can ever support political violence, no true supporter of mine can insult law enforcement," Donald Trump said.

"No true supporter of mine could ever threaten or harass his fellow Americans. If you do any of these things that you are not supporting our movement, then you are attacking this and our country. We cannot tolerate this ... no excuse, no exception, America is a country of laws," he added.

10 Republicans voted

Interestingly, 10 Republicans, including Representative Liz Cheney, the party's number three in the House, voted to accuse Trump of inciting his supporters to carry out the deadly January 6 attack on Congress.

US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the House demonstrated that no one is above the law, 'not even the President of the United States'.

According to reports, a trial is likely to be held in the Senate before January 20. If Trump is convicted here, he may be barred from seeking the presidency in 2024.
