Saint John's (Antigua): Fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi said that his health has deteriorated. He has alleged that there is a conspiracy to kidnap him again.
Attempts are being made to move him from Antigua to Guyana. Fugitive Mehul Choksi, accused in the Rs 13,500 crore Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud case, is currently in Antigua. India's investigative agencies are constantly trying to bring Mehul Choksi back to the country. So that the proceedings against him can be taken further.
In July this year, Mehul Choksi had survived citing his ill health. The Dominican court granted him bail and allowed him to return to Antigua from Dominica. In fact, Indian agencies had filed a petition in the court to bring Mehul Choksi back to India.
Mehul Choksi's lawyer Vijay Agarwal had said that Choksi had got bail on medical grounds. The court had ordered Mehul Choksi to deposit 10 thousand Caribbean dollars i.e. about 2 lakh 75 thousand rupees as bail.
Barrister Michael Pollock had said that Mehul Choksi had been going through a very difficult period for a few weeks. The court said that it was necessary to get relief on medical grounds, so that he could get his treatment and help his family.
Earlier, Mehul Choksi's family and lawyers had alleged that Choksi had been kidnapped from the Jolly Harbor area of Antigua by agents of Indian agencies and then forcibly relocated to Dominica on May 23.
