Buenos Aires: Argentina will begin by the end of the year the anti- COVID19 vaccination for children between 3 to 11 years, said Health Minister Carla Vizzotti as the Argentine National Administration of Drugs, Food and Medical Technology (ANMAT) has authorised the use of the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine for the purpose.
"ANMAT has confirmed that we can use Sinopharm [vaccine] for children aged 3-11 years ... Argentina will finish 2021 with the full coverage and protection of people aged over 3 years," Vizzotti said at a press conference on late Friday. The minister added that there were from 5.5 to 6 million children of this age in Argentina.
Argentina has confirmed more than 5.25 million COVID-19 cases so far, with over 115,000 fatalities.
Meanwhile, the United States on Friday (local time) surpassed 7,00,000 deaths due to COVID-19.
According to data from Johns Hopkins University, 7,00,258 Americans have died and more than 43.61 million have been infected by the virus till now. The Spanish flu pandemic from 1918 to 1919 killed about 6,75,000 people in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Researchers at the University of Washington project that an additional 100,000 Americans will die during the forthcoming winter, Sputnik reported.
