World Cup 2019: This is the bowler Virat & Co will be wary of

Trent Boult

Nottingham, June 12: The Indian batting line-up have displayed impressive firepower in the two matches they have played so far.

However, if there is one bowler who can give them a run for their money in swing-friendly English conditions, it is Trent Boult.

India had won a five-match series by a convincing 4-1 margin in New Zealand earlier this year.

However, the Kiwis will take heart from a couple of occasions on that series.

The Kiwis had bundled out the Indians for just 92 at Hamilton. In the very next match at Wellington, they again put the men in blue on the ropes, leaving them struggling at 18/4.

Trent Boult was the wrecker-in-chief on both occassions, as he used extracted prodigious swing and movement off the pitch.

With conditions in England similar to New Zealand, the Kiwis and their pace spearhead Boult must be feeling at home.

Boult has claimed 22 wickets in the 12 ODIs he has played against India.

Meanwhile, the suspense over Shikhar Dhawan's continued participation in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019 continues.

The star opener was hit on the fingers after he was surprised by the awkward bounce of a Nathan Coulter-Nile delivery during India's last World Cup match against Australia. But he continued to bat with a tapped thumb despite the pain.

With Dhawan's participation thought to be crucial for India's chances, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has declined to take a final call on the matter and instead decided to keep the batsman under observation.

"Team India opening batsman Mr Shikhar Dhawan is presently under observation of the BCCI medical team. The team management has decided that Mr Dhawan will continue to be in England and his progress will be monitored," the BCCI said in a statement.

"Mr Dhawan sustained an injury on the back of his left hand in the region between the index finger and thumb during the CWC 2019 league match against Australia," the statement added.

The Delhi southpaw may reportedly miss the next two matches against New Zealand and arch-rivals Pakistan.

If Shikhar Dhawan is ruled out of the rest of the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019, it will be a huge jolt for the Indian team. It will be difficult for the team management to find a suitable replacement.
