New Delhi, Nov 2: There is no end to controversies as long as Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati was on floor. Veteran director Sanjay Leela Bhansali really had a tough job in hand.
Gujarat BJP spokesman for the State Assembly election 2017 and Kshtriya leader IK Jadeja on Wednesday said that his party had decided to oppose release of Sanjay Leela Bhanshali’s upcoming film Padmavati as the movie hurts sentiments of Kshtriya community.
Even Maharashtra Tourism Minister Jaykumar Rawal on Wednesday demanded a ban saying the state government would be writing to the Censor board on the issue.
The film has kicked up a controversy as some organisations in Rajasthan have accused it of distortion of history.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali's much-awaited period drama "Padmavati" will release in the US on December 1.
Jadeja also indicated that BJP had sent an application regarding the release of film to the Election Commission. According to him, in the Bollywood film the history related to Rani Padmavati was depicted wrongly. Already members of the Kshatriya and Rajput communities from 17 districts met with senior members of the State Government seeking ban on release of movie in the State.
Starring Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor, "Padmavati" is being distributed internationally by Paramount Pictures.
Ajit Andhare, Chief Operating Officer, Viacom18 Motion Pictures, said in a statement: "I am very proud to announce that Paramount Pictures will lead the international release of our epic film ‘Padmavati'. We are breaking new ground with 'Padmavati', its marketing and release strategy. With Paramount coming on board, we will take the film to a whole new level globally."
Megan Colligan, spokesperson of Paramount Pictures, said: "'Padmavati' has all the makings of a hit film and we are excited to bring Sanjay's incredible vision to audiences across the international marketplace."
The movie stars Ranveer as Sultan Alauddin Khilji, Deepika in the lead role of Rani Padmavati and Shahid as Maharawal Ratan Singh. The movie sets out to tell the tale of Rani Padmavati - the legendary Mewar queen known as much for her beauty and intelligence as she was for her courage, her husband Maharawal Ratan Singh - a glorious Rajput ruler and a warrior king who fought till his dying breath to defend his kingdom and his wife's honour and Sultan Alauddin Khilji - an ambitious and obsessive invader.
