Whatsapp celebrating its eighth birthday today, February 24, and making it special for its users Whatsapp has revamped its Status feature to users worldwide.
How is the new "Status" feature?
The "Status" feature lets users share photos, GIFs or videos overlaid with drawings, emojis and a caption that will be visible to selected friends for 24 hours, before disappearing."This new and improved status feature will let you keep your friends who use WhatsApp easily updated in a fun and simple way," the blog said on Thursday.Users can control who can see their "Status" update by selecting among the three options in WhatsApp's privacy settings. And the best option in the feature which can also be a reason to fight just as last seen is that users can also see who has viewed their Status update by tapping the eye icon at the bottom of any Status update.
1) WhatsApp has 1.2 billion users
WhatsApp – the near-ubiquitous messaging app has a staggering 1.2 billion monthly active users. In February 2016 the messaging app announced one billion people using its services and this stat increased 20 percent since then.
2) 50 billion WhatsApp messages sent per day
Over 50 billion messages are sent per day. The company also reported that over 14 billion messages were sent on New Year's Eve just in India. This figure included 3.1 billion images, 700 million GIFs, and 610 million videos. On Diwali, 8 billion messages were sent by users
3) 80 million GIFs sent per day on WhatsApp
Sending GIFs on the app started in November 2016, and within three months on an average, 80 million GIFs are in a day and on special occasions, this number gets even higher.
4) 3.3 billion photos shared on WhatsApp per day
WhatsApp users across the world send over 3.3 billion photos on the app on an average day and this number said to have doubled over the past year.
5) 760 million videos per day shared on WhatsApp daily
The number of videos shared on the app has increased compared to images, tripling to 760 million videos sent per day.
6) 160 million users in India, WhatsApp's biggest market
Whatsapp has over 160 million users in India, making its biggest market. This stat was revealed by company's VP Neeraj Arora himself at the launch of the video calling feature late last year.
7) Over 100 million WhatsApp voice calls per day
On an average, 100 million voice calls are made on the app per day, allowing people to connect without incurring huge costs.
8) Over 200 million voice messages sent per day on WhatsApp
