War clouds after surgical strikes: Punjab CM monitoring evacuation, night blackout at Bhakra Dam

Chandigarh: Expecting retaliation from Pakistan following the surgical strikes by India, Punjab is on extra high alert. Apart from border, security has been beefed up around the Bhakra Dam. It has been decided that lights will remain switched off during night at the dam to avoid it being a easy target for Pakistan. Army and BSF have put on high alert with extra deploment, Pathankot has been turned into a fortress. Villagers from the villages near the border are being evacuated. Extra arrangements have been made at the hospitals and leaves  of the medical staff has been cancelled. Chief minister Prakash Singh Badal has directed chief secretary Sarvesh Kaushal and DGP Suresh Arora to ask deputy commissioners (DCs)and senior superintendents of police to oversee the evacuation in the 6 border districts Ferozepur, Fazilka, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur and Pathankot. Badal has asked all the DCs to identify locations for camps for those being evacuated. A grant of Rs 1 crore ecah has been sanctioned to all DCs to meet any emergency. Badal has asked ministers and MLAs to camp in border districts to ensure a smooth evacuation
