New Delhi, May 22: Vivek Oberoi was reportedly provided security by the Mumbai police on Wednesday following threats to the Bollywood actor.
Vivek has been the epicentre of a controversy over the last few days due to a disparaging post on social media of his alleged ex-girlfriend and fellow actor Aishwarya Rai.
Following the post on his Twitter handle, several Bollywood personalities came forward to criticise Vivek and called on him to tender an apology. The actor also became the target of online trolls.
Vivek initially tried to stand his ground before apologising and deleting the tweet.
The Twitter post was a meme which went viral. It shows three of Aishwarya Rai's photos which have been mashed up.
In the first one, she is seen with former beau Salman Khan and is captioned "Opinion Poll". In the second she is with Oberoi himself which is captioned "Exit Poll".
Finally in the last photo, she is seen with husband Abhishek Bachchan and their daughter.
After the controversy broke out, Vivek had initially defended himself.
"Tell me what wrong have I done? If I have done something wrong I will apologise. I have no problem in apologising, but tell me what wrong have I done? If I have done something wrong I will apologise, I don't think I have done anything wrong," the actor had told the media.
"Those in the meme don't have a problem, but everyone else has," he had claimed.
