Jaipur: Yet another Chaiwala (tea seller) is making headlines. This time the man is not from Gujarat, but from Rajasthan. You may not believe it, but like the Surat Chaiwala, he too is under Income Tax scanner. This, after his video went viral.
The chailwala had, allegedly, distributed Rs 1.51 crore as dowry during the marriage of his 6 daughters. The story is about Leela Ram Gujjar, who owns a tea stall at Haduata near Kothputli.
In the viral video he is seen flaunting the counting cash loudly in presence of locals and community leaders. Then he hands over the bundles to the families of the grooms.
Now Gujjar has been summoned by the Income Tax officials. "He will be questioned on his income, and it will be checked if he filed his returns or not. If the dowry he paid stemmed from unaccounted for income, a tax deduction process would be initiated. He has also been asked to produce documents pertaining to his income," an I-T official was quoted in a media report.
Gujjar is not only facing the Income Tax heat, the police are alos probing the allegations that he got four minor daughters married during the ceremony. Reports llege that Gujjar had printed wedding cards for just two of his elder daughters, but also got four minor daughters married at the April 4 ceremony.
