New Delhi, Sep 17: One of the hardest critics of PM Narendra Modi has been West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, but of late, it appears that the firebrand leader is cosying up to PM Modi.
It indeed was surprising when Mamata Banerjee was among the early well-wishers to wish PM Narendra Modi on his birthday.
Banerjee on Tuesday wished Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his 69th birthday. Banerjee, will also most likely meet the prime minister in New Delhi on Wednesday for discussions on administrative issues. She wished the PM on her Twitter handle, "Birthday greetings to Prime Minister @narendramodi ji."
It is an open fact that Banerjee has been one of the harshest critics of the BJP and Modi.
Banerjee will leave for New Delhi on Tuesday and is likely to meet the Prime Minister next day, West Bengal Secretariat sources said.
The proposed meeting comes at a time when former Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar is being questioned by the CBI in connection with the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam.
PM Narendra Modi's another hard critic, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, also greeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his 69th birthday and wished him a long and healthy life. Gujarat-born Modi began the day with a visit to the Statue of Unity and the Sardar Sarovar Dam on the River Narmada in his home state.
PM Modi was greeted by several leaders, including Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and BJP president and Home Minister Amit Shah. Kejriwal also joined in extending his greetings on Twitter: "Happy birthday to Hon'ble PM Shri @narendramodi ji. We wish him a long and healthy life".
Earlier in the day, Modi arrived at Kevadiya to take part in the 'Namami Narmada' festival being celebrated by the Gujarat government to mark the filling up of the Sardar Sarovar Dam on Narmada river to its full reservoir level of 138.68 m. The Statue of Unity, billed as the tallest in the world, was inaugurated by Modi on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's birth anniversary on October 31 last year.
