Manohar Parrikar is best known as a man with simple living and high thinking. He was the first IITian to become an MLA, first IITian to become a chief minister and also first IITian to become a Union Defence Minister. Parrikar lost his wife Medha Parrikar in 2001. Like Parrikar she also succumbed to cancer.
Parrikar was suffering from the life-threatening pancreatic ailment for past one year. He had undergone treatment at various hospitals in Goa, Mumbai, Delhi and the US.Parrikar was the Chief Minister of Goa from 14 March 2017 till his death. Previously he was Chief Minister of Goa from 2000 to 2005 and from 2012 to 2014.Parrikar died on Sunday evening at his residence near here after battling pancreatic cancer for over a year. He was 63.
