Veteran actress Shammi, fondly called auntie, passes away at 89

New Delhi, March 6: Veteran actress Shammi, a Parsi by birth and born as Nargis Rabadi, passed away at 89. Shammi acted in more than 200 films and was a very populat TV actor in the later phase of her career.

 SHe worked in popular television serials such as Dekh Bhai Dekh, Zabaan Sambhal Ke, Shriman Shrimati, Kabhi Yeh Kabhi Woh and Filmi Chakkar.

She was a very good friend of nargis Dutt and is recalled by Bollywood as a very loving personality, full of passion and enthusiasm. Her first film as a solo heroine was Malhar, which was produced by playback singer Mukesh.

Priya Dutt, sister of actor Sanjay Dutt tweeted: “Shammi, aunty to me and a great actor of yesteryears passed away today. She was my mother's dear friend and someone we all loved very much. May her soul rest in peace and her laughter and contagious smile rock the heavens. Be In peace with your friends (sic).”

Amitabh Bachchan too expressed his condolence for the veteran actor:
