New Delhi: Election Commission has announced the dates for the assembly elections to be held in five states - West Bengal, Assam, Puducherry, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora released the schedule of elections for all the states on Friday.
Votes will be cast in three phases for the 126 assembly seats of Assam. The first phase of voting will take place on 27 March, while the second phase will take place on 1 April and the third phase on 6 April. At the same time, the election results will be released on May 2. This time the voting time has also been extended by one hour in view of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Polling will be held in 47 seats in the first phase. The last date of nomination for this has been kept as March 9. The nomination date for the second phase has been set as 5 March, while the third phase will be held in 40 seats.
The Election Commission informed that Assam had 24,890 election centers in the 2016 assembly elections, the number of election centers in 2021 would be 33,530. Voting will take place in 824 assembly seats in all five states and all polling stations will be on the ground floor.
Assam has a total of 126 assembly seats. In view of the recommendation of some political parties in view of the Coronavirus pandemic, the Election Commission has decided to extend the voting time by one hour.
