Patna: There has been a massive tragedy at the Patna airport. According to reports, there was an explosion on board an aircraft soon after take off.


The aircraft made an emergency landing immediately after the incident. The aircraft caught fire and fire engines were rushed to the spot.


According to a report by news agency ANI, a Delhi-bound SpiceJet flight returned to Patna airport shortly after takeoff due to a technical glitch that caused a fire in the aircraft. All the passengers were safely rescued.


The Directorate General of Civil Aviation said that a bird hit resulted in a technical glitch in a SpiceJet aircraft soon after taking off from the Patna airport, forcing the pilot to make an emergency landing.


According to reports, the incident took place soon after the flight took off. The bird hit reportedly caused a malfunction in one of the engines and there was an explosion on board the SpiceJet aircraft, which caught fire. 


There were 185 passengers on board the flight which was going from Patna to Delhi.


"Delhi-bound SpiceJet flight returned to Patna after a bird hit and one engine shuts in the air, all on-board passengers safe," the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said in a statement.


The aircraft made an emergency landing immediately after the incident. The aircraft caught fire and fire engines were rushed to the spot.

Patna DM Chandrashekhar Singh rushed to the spot upon receiving information about the incident.


"The Delhi-bound flight had returned to Patna airport after locals noticed a fire in the aircraft and informed district and airport officials. All 185 passengers safely deboarded. Reason is technical glitch, engineering team analysing further," he said.
