Union Home Minister Amit Shah will meet MPs, MLAs and senior BJP leaders of Jammu and Kashmir in the Jammu district today after inaugurating the developmental projects. Following the meeting with BJP leaders, Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Digiyana Gurudwara in Jammu to offer prayers.
Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir): There has been intense speculation over the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Jammu and Kashmir. Coming in the wake of targeted killings of minority Hindus and Sikhs by Pakistan-backed terrorists, Amit Shah's visit to the troubled region has sparked rumours of a possible crackdown by the government.
Home Minister Amit Shah reached Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. In Srinagar, the Union Home Minister spoke to the media about the prolonged curfew, internet shutdown and delimitation exercise.
"People questioned curfew, internet suspension. Had there been no curfew, don't know how many lives would have been lost. Kashmir youth has been saved due to curfew, internet suspension. Three families ruled for 70 yrs. Why were 40,000 people killed?," Amit Shah told the media.
"Why should we stop delimitation? There will be delimitation, after that elections and then statehood will be restored... I want to befriend the Kashmiri youth," Amit Shah added.
Amit Shah informed that 4,500 youth clubs have been registered in Jammu and Kashmir, out of which 4,229 youth clubs are in rural areas.
"These clubs are working to connect the youth of rural areas with development and some other sports activities," he said.
In an attempt to boost the confidence of the younger generation, Amit Shah said that there is immense potential for every youth of this country.
"PM Modi has started many startup programs and created many platforms so that our youth of the village of Jammu and Kashmir stay in the village and stand on the world stage," he said.
Earlier, in a high-level meeting chaired by Home Minister Amit Shah, issues such as prolonged encounters with terrorists, growing threat of radicalization, killing of civilians and increase in cross-border infiltration were discussed.
Amit Shah inaugurated the Srinagar-Sharjah international flight. Speaking on the occasion, he said, “We announce to open it from today. This will help in promoting tourism and bring more investment in the Union Territory.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will on Sunday participate in several events and lay the foundation stone of various developmental projects in Jammu.
As per official information, Shah will also inaugurate two phases of a multi-disciplinary research centre and lay the foundation stone of the third phase of the centre at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Jammu today.
The inauguration will also be attended by the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha and Union Minister of Science and Technology Dr Jitendra Singh.

On the first day of his visit on Saturday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah met families of soldiers and civilians killed this month in a spate of terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir and held a security review meeting in Srinagar, followed by an interactive session with the members of Jammu and Kashmir's youth club. He said that the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir will be restored after the delimitation of constituencies and assembly elections.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday will unveil the foundation plaque at the Indian Institue of Technology (IIT) campus during its inauguration ceremony in Jammu.
"During the inauguration ceremony of the permanent campus of IIT Jammu, Shah will unveil the foundation plaque of Phase 1A, 1B and 1C today and a plantation of saplings will also take place after it," an official statement said. Following these events, Amit Shah will launch 'Saptrishi'- a multidisciplinary research centre at IIT, Jammu.
The launch of the joint 'Dual Degree Programme' and 'Joint Management Development Programme' are also lined up in the events today.
On the second day of his three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir which began on Saturday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will also hold a meeting with the BJP leader of Jammu and will visit Digiyana Gurudwara today.
