Mumbai: Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut's account was "permanently suspended" on Tuesday over her alleged incendiary tweets related to West Bengal violence. The development has received various reactions; while many internet users have rejoiced, some netizens have also called it a death of democracy, alleging that it's a threat to the Right to free speech.
Meanwhile, many Bollywood celebs, including Richa Chadha, Swara Bhasker and Hansal Mehta among others have also reacted.
In a veiled jibe, Richa Chadha shared a meme with the text, "Be Yourself. Someone Else," making a reference to Kangana's reaction to suspension where she said that she has many platforms to raise her voice.
Swara shared news about a fashion house terminating all ties with the Queen actor. She wrote, "Pleasantly surprised to see this! Kudos to you @AnandBhushan & #RimzimDadu for calling out hate speech and incitement to genocide in a direct manner! Stand tall you guys!"
Reacting to a journalist's post about Kangana's suspension, Hansal Mehta wrote, "Full nautanki." "Let her Koo all her toxic violent communal tweets somewhere else now. Thank you @Twitter @jack ," the journalist had written.
Gulshan Devaiah tweeted, "Her majesty shot herself in the foot while plucking her eyebrows. Poor Virat, his name was dragged into this unnecessarily." In a tweet in response to the violence following recent assembly poll results in West Bengal, Kangana had mentioned Modi's "virat roop" from the 2000s.
Confirming the suspension of her account, a Twitter spokesperson had said, “We’ve been clear that we will take strong enforcement action on behaviour that has the potential to lead to offline harm. The referenced account has been permanently suspended for repeated violations of Twitter Rules specifically our Hateful Conduct policy and Abusive Behaviour policy. We enforce the Twitter Rules judiciously and impartially for everyone on our service.”
