Chandigarh: Captain Amarinder Singh, former chief minister of Punjab and President of Punjab Lok Congress, has tested positive for COVID-19. The politician has said he has mild symptoms and has isolated himself.
Sharing his health status on Twitter, Amarinder Singh requested all those who came in contact with him to get themselves tested for COVID-19.
"I have tested positive for #Covid with mild symptoms. Have isolated myself and request all those who came in contact with me to get themselves tested," Captain Amarinder Singh tweeted.
The 79-year-old leader has last year announced the launch of his political party - Punjab Lok Congress. On January 10, PLC has received it's Party Symbol - Hockey Stick and Ball.
Recently, Amarinder Singh's party has allied with the BJP to contest together in the Punjab Assembly election 2022.
Polling for 117 assembly seats in Punjab will be held in single phase on February 14. Counting of votes and result of the election will be declared on March 10.
Amarinder Singh was a leader with Congress for almost four decades before quitting the party in November last year.
Along with the rest of the country, Punjab too has been witnessing spike in COVID-19 cases for the last few days. In the last 24 hours, the poll-bound state, Punjab recorded 4,552 new COVID-19 cases. The state now has over 23,000 active cases of coronavirus.
