Srinagar. Lt rank army officer and a soldier were killed in an explosion along the Line of Control in Rajouri district on Saturday afternoon, official sources told News24.
Officials said during a routine patrolling near forward location in Lam sector of Noweshra in Rajouri district a mysterious explosion occurred which left two army men, including an officer rank, grievously injured. Both the injured were evacuated to the hospital in a critical condition, they further said. The sources said they later succumbed to injuries.
The incident has taken place as Poonch operation has entered 20th day in the region.
Top army sources told News24 that the Explosion is said to be the handy work of enemy, as initial leads are suggesting it was an IED planted by enemy to target army patrolling in the area.
PRO Defence Jammu told News24, a mine blast occurred during an area domination patrol by army in Naushera Sector of Rajouri wherein, two Indian Army soldiers suffered critical injuries and later succumbed to their injuries. Another soldier who received injuries was evacuated and is under treatment.
He identified the slain soldiers as Lt Rishi Kumar resident of Begusarai, Bihar and Sepoy Manjit Singh resident of Sirvewala, Bhatinda, Punjab.
Jammu and Kashmir Police has detained three more persons including two brothers allegedly for providing food and shelter to the militants stranded in Bhatta Durrian forests of Mendhar tehsil in Poonch district.
Those detained include Mohammad Arif, 24 and Mohammad Tariq, 22, all residents of Bhatta Durrian.
Nearly 20 persons have so far been detained. They include some women. Three persons were nabbed from Kathmandu in Nepal.
Nine Army soldiers, two of them JCOs, have been martyred so far in Chamrer forests of Surankote and Bhatta Durrian jungles of Mendhar in the gun battles with the militants.
An army officer and four jawans were killed in an encounter between security forces and militants in the Surankote area of Poonch on October 11. Later on October 14 two Army personnel were killed in the Nar Khas forest area in Mendhar, Poonch.
