Mumbai: A 26-year-old student of IIT Bombay committed suicide by jumping from the hostel's 7th floor on Monday morning.
According to the police, the student was a second year master's scholar in Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay. He allegedly jumped from the hostel building around 4:30 am on Monday.
His body was spotted by an on-duty watchman outside the hostel building, who immediately called up a senior official of the premier engineering institute. Police too was informed about the incident.
He was rushed to a hospital in Ghatkopar where he was declared brought dead. The young engineering aspirant hailed from Madhya Pradesh. His family members were informed about his untimely death.
The police informed that they have received a suicide note written on the board of his hostel room that mentioned that he was suffering from depression and was under treatment.
"He didn't hold anyone responsible for his death. Further probe into the matter is underway," Mumbai Police said.
A case of accidental death has been registered in Powai Police station.
