New Delhi: DCW (Delhi Commission for Women) Chairperson Swati Maliwal on Thursday spoke in details about the gang-rape and sexual assault of a 20-year-old woman in Shahdara in the national capital.
In a video, Maliwal said, "People in business of selling illicit liquor, dragged out a 20-year-old girl from her house in Delhi and abducted her. They took her to a house in Kasturba Nagar where three men gangraped her. There were many women standing at the place where the crime was being carried out and they provoked the men to rape her in more brutal manner."
She further said the girls hair were chopped and they made her bald, they make her wear garland of slippers, and her entire face was painted black.
"They beat her up badly and made her parade the entire locality for about an hour," Maliwal said.
The DCW said she has issued a notice to Delhi Police and demanded immediate arrest of all those men and women involved in the crime. She even sought for security for the victim.
Maliwal also said, "The business of illicit liquor is being carried out on a large scale in Delhi. This business is being carried out in every by-lanes of the capital. There is a need to stop this and tighten the noose around the criminals."
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also condemned the incident and urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal to instruct the Delhi Police to take stringent action against the culprits.
Kejriwal also asked the Home Minister and Delhi L-G to ask Delhi Police to "pay attention" in law and other situation in the city.
Delhi Police have arrested four accused in connection with the incident. District Commissioner of Police (DCP), Shahdara, R Sathiyasundaram said the crime was suspected to be the result of the woman's personal enmity with the accused.
Reports said the assault was carried out by family members of a youth who stayed in the neighbourhood and committed suicide in November. The woman was followed by the youth and the family blamed her for his suicide.
The woman's younger sister informed the police, that the victim is married and has a child. She is undergoing treatment in a hospital and her condition is said to be stable.
