New Delhi:At least 125 passengers of an international chartered plane from Italy have tested positive for COVID-19 on arrival at Amritsar airport on Thursday. There were a total of 179 passengers onboard the flight, VK Seth, Amritsar Airport Director said.


Earlier reports were doing rounds that the passengers of Rome-Amritsar flight who tested positive for COVID-19 was of Air India.


Taking to Twitter Air India said it does not operate any flight from Rome "currently" and said the media reports were "wrong and baseless."


"Several Media houses has reported that Passengers of Air India flight from Rome to Amritsar have been tested COVID positive. This is wrong and baseless. Air India doesn't operate any flight from Rome currently," Air India in a tweet said.




As per the norms, all the international passengers are being tested at the respective airport on their arrival to India. They are only allowed to leave the premises once their test report comes negative.


Meanwhile, India has been witnessing spike in COVID-19 cases. As per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), the country has report a record 90,928 new cases of COVID-19 which is 56.51 per cent higher than the previous day.


The deadly virus has claimed lives of 325 people in the country in the last 24 hours.
