New Delhi: Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Jio has increased the prices of its prepaid plans by 20 percent. This announcement by Jio comes after Airtel and Vodafone Idea announced an increase in the price of their tariff. Analysts had already said that after Airtel and Vodafone Idea, Jio will also increase mobile rates and now it has done so.
According to the statement issued by Jio, the new tariff plans will be applicable from December 1, 2021. However, Jio also claims that its plans are the cheapest in the industry. Jio has said that the new prices of its plans will be applicable from December 1 and can be accessed across all existing touchpoints and channels. Jio has increased the prices of plans from Rs 16 to Rs 480.
How much did Airtel, Vodafone Idea rates increase?
Talking about Airtel and Vodafone Idea, Airtel has increased the rates of various prepaid plans including the voice plans, unlimited voice plans and data top-up by 20-25 percent. The new rates came into effect from Friday 26 November. After Airtel, Vodafone Idea also announced an increase in the tariff plan.
Vodafone Idea announced a 20-25 percent increase in mobile call and data rates across all plans. The increased rates became effective from November 25. Vodafone Idea has increased the rates despite continuously losing its customers.
Jio lost 19 million connections in September
Bharti Airtel added 2.74 lakh new mobile subscribers in September, while Reliance Jio lost 19 million connections during this period. At the same time, the number of Vodafone Idea connections also decreased by 10.77 lakh.
According to data from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Airtel's subscriber base increased to 354.4 million in September from 35.41 million in August. Reliance Jio had 42.48 million mobile subscribers as of September. But it lost 1.9 crore connections during the month of September. Vodafone Idea's subscriber figure has come down to 26.99 crores.
