Amid heavy rain in Tamil Nadu, nearly 15 million voters have already cast their votes. The state has witnessed 41 percent polling till 1 pm. AIADMK General Secretary and the state's Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa meanwhile has asked to wait for the results.
The Chief Electoral Officer, Tamil Nadu, Rajesh Lahoni said, "heavy rain lashed eight districts of the state. We have already recommended to extend the poll time and expect the ECI's approval by 3 pm.
Earlier, the polling percentage in Ramanathapuram was recorded between 20-21 percent. In Namakkal, Salem and Tiruvallur, the voting percentage stood at 30 percent, added Rajesh Lahoni.
According to a top election official, the state did not witness any kind of violence during the poll process and there were no law and order issues as such. First time voters were seen casting their votes enthusiastically and waited patiently for their turn in the long queues.
